Founded in 2015, EmpowHERto is a Toronto-based non-profit organization dedicated to helping 14-21-year-old womxn and girls reach their fullest potential through three pillars: Independence, Leadership, and Confidence. We empower our members to become the next generation of leaders by partnering with community members to provide an array of resources including social events, mentorship, and entrepreneurial opportunities.
EmpowHERto has been providing networking events for members of all ages since its inception. As the group grew, its founder, Janeen Brown, realized that in addition to networking events, she wanted to share knowledge, resources, and assist others in their own self-esteem journey, as other women have done for her.
EmpowHERto seeks to become a resource centre that will fill the gendered leadership gap in our society by encouraging girls and womxn in finding their inner leadership capabilities. This, in turn, will help create a larger surplus of future female leaders.
EmpowHERto knows that diversity is essential if we are going to deliver on our mission, and we seek to have a diverse network of female-identifying members and community partners. We value the experience and contribution of every individual in our network.
We provide young womxn with the resources to be self-reliant in their own powers rather than those of others, by shifting the narrative and exposing them to female role models and encouraging them to be their best selves.
We provide a space as well as opportunities for young womxn to develop their confidence and their voice through activities aimed at fostering self-esteem and building connections in order to challenge the status quo and succeed as leaders.
Our goal is to work with our young ladies to build self-esteem and awareness by showing girls and womxn that what they have inside makes them beautiful, special and unique.
Our EmpowHERto team is made up of a group of dedicated staff and volunteers who are committed to helping young womxn and girls reach their fullest potential as leaders. We help to plan activities and programs, coordinate and host events, and encourage them along their journey to becoming their best selves. We’re passionate about our mission.
