Take control of your financial purse with free, Finance4HER program
Over the past few months, we’ve all seen the ‘girl math’ trend on social media where girls try to justify financial decisions using hilarious and often misguided logic.
For example, if you buy a pair of shoes only to return them, that return is free money that can be spent on something else instead of going back into your account. The same goes for cash — it’s free money and spending it doesn’t count. We’ve all done it.
Sounds reasonable, right?
Wrong.
While at its foundation, ‘girl math’ is a joke. But the same funny concept reinforces the stereotype of women being big spenders without accountability — or ability — to save or do basic math.
For decades, we have fought for the right to earn — and spend — our own money without justifying our purchases to anyone. But we still have to be accountable to ourselves.
Statistically, minority women and girls are less financially literate compared to men, facing disproportionate financial burdens — reflecting the social, racial and gender biases still in society.
We need to reinvent ‘girl math’ and take our financial futures into our own hands, or purse.
Let’s make ‘girl math’ make sense — or cents.
That doesn’t mean you should not buy yourself nice things or indulge once in a while. Nor does that mean becoming a stock market expert scoring the financial pages daily — unless you want to.
What is financial literacy?
Financial literacy is about learning HOW to spend AND save. It’s about learning to create an achievable plan for future needs, learning how to open a bank account, learning how to budget essentials and ‘nice-to-haves’ and learning to set realistic goals.
Educating yourself is an excellent start.
What’s the difference between a student bank account and student credit card? How do you create a rainy day piggy bank or save for a vacation when you have bills to pay? What are you spending your money on and how do you avoid the ‘where-did-all-my-money-go’ feeling?
If any of this feels overwhelming, we get it and we’ve all been there.
Learn the answer to those questions — and how to — with the EmpowHERto Finance4HER program, geared to girls like you who are thinking about your financial future but don’t know where to start.
Finance4HER is a transformative financial journey that will empower you to take control of your financial literacy and equip you with the skills to make it happen.
