Become a mentor — Change a life

Sometimes the only difference between having a dream and making it reality is the people you surround yourself with

We all have passions — the things that make us come alive.

For some, it’s art and the love of creating, whether it be through painting, writing or hands-on crafting and making.

For others, it’s physical fitness and well-being that comes with a rush of adrenaline after playing an intense game of soccer or crossing the finish line of a race.

It might even be a passion for computers, numbers and coding.

It is these unique interests that make us human and help pave our futures.

Think about what you’re passionate about. Think about what that passion has brought to your life and the wonderful opportunities it has bestowed upon you.

And then, think about who made those dreams possible, who supported you and who cheered you on along the way.

Somewhere down the line someone — be it a coach, sibling, camp leader or even a boss — was there to support you and all your dreams.

And that someone can be you, too!

There’s a name for it: mentorship. And being a mentor goes beyond guidance and encouragement.

The formative role played by mentors, specifically in the lives of youth, cannot be understated. Sometimes, the only difference between a dream and a reality is the people you are surrounded with.

A mentor — the right mentor — can help establish valuable social and professional networks, share expertise and knowledge, act as a sounding board giving feedback and support for your thoughts, plans and ideas of the future.

Mentorships are much more dynamic than they may seem. It’s not just a one-way passage of information. Mentorships are a two-way relationship with a bond that can last a lifetime.

We want YOU to share your passion, experience and know-how with other young minority women and girls. Think about how that person — your mentor — helped shape your future.

You can help be the difference between a dream and a reality.

If you can relate — thinking back to that crucial moment when having a mentor at your back helped propel you forward — then think about becoming a mentor with EmpowHERto and help change a life.

As a mentor with EmpowHERto’s AdvisHER program, you will help change and shape the future for a group of young minority women and girls. Over the course of the AdvisHER program, you would provide guidance and support during a crucial time.
