Forget New Year’s resolutions. How about focusing on achieving your short and long term goals this year? Although resolutions and goals may seem like the same thing, promising to start a new workout routine or spend more quality time with your BFF are very general and can easily be forgotten after a few weeks. Goals are better for the long run and helpful in improving our lives and accomplishing our dreams. Do you want to help others? Get better at self-care? Or learn a new skill? There are a ton of different types of goals, and they work as targets to get us from where we are to where we want to be.
Tips when setting a goal
Make your goal a priority
Create a list of goals you want to achieve, think of the steps you’ll need to take to get them done, and then make achieving those steps a priority on a daily basis. A good way to prioritize your goals is to post them in plain sight. Try setting up a calendar or creating a vision board.
Evaluate your core capabilities
After you’ve determined your goals, streamline your efforts in a more guided direction by evaluating your strengths, and analyzing your weaknesses. Is your goal relevant or appropriate to who you are and who you want to be?
Get motivated
For some motivation, follow the social media accounts of people you look up to. Also, try setting a small, achievable goal each day and then gradually begin to set larger goals. You’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish over time.
Enjoy small victories
Reward yourself every time you achieve a small goal, whether that’s every week or every month. Tell friends and family about your victories and make them a part of your success. Perhaps you will inspire someone else. You’ve done so well!
